Using the movement of the cover
A glass keypad keeps traces of the fingers that touch it. I placed a cleaning strip inside the sliding cover to address these marks during normal use.
The next time the cover opens, the strip passes over the keypad. Cleaning becomes part of opening the lock, without adding a separate step.

A removable cleaning strip
The buckskin-cloth insert is removable, so it can be cleaned or replaced. A channel makes the protective cover easier to remove, and a groove helps release the cleaning insert.
The insertion guide positions the module when it goes back into the lock. Maintenance uses the same small, replaceable part that performs the daily cleaning.
